The Importance of Being Funny

What's so special about having sense of humour? Such a silly question for us – human representatives of our post-modernistic society, isn't it? Even Oscar Wilde, who once told us about the importance of being earnest, however, framed the whole thing into a very humorous concept. Good Ole Oscar Wilde knew a thing or two about the importance of being funny as well, it's just that he was so witty that he couldn't put things simpler i.e. directly.
Switching from generalities to details, let's dwell upon the particulars. Unlike Oscar Wilde, we'll try to be straight to the point. What would you do if your girlfriend left you for another girl? You'd cry your eyes out, that's for sure, you'd most likely get drunk or do a lot of other useless things and maybe you'd even secretly consider smashing your head over your monitor at work. Do you have any idea what all these things mean? That most likely you do not have sense of humour. If you had it, you would treat things like these a lot easier. Certainly, there are moments when sense of humour vanishes even from the sight and touch of the funniest people ever, however, we should work at ourselves in order it never to happen. Your perfect reaction as left-for-a-girl lover with good sense of humour would be laughter. Crazy, hysterical, irrelevant laughter that would wake up all your neighbours or scare the hell out of your colleagues. Certainly, if you had sense of humour you would laugh at the situation, ironize over your ex, over yourself, your female rival. You'd blackjoke about your miserable life, grotesque overt your future, but you'd never seriously think your life may end at that very breaking point.
Sense of humour helps us stay relatively calm in shaky situations, lets us overcome our problems and face most calamities that may happen around us without losing our face. If we possess sense of humour we practically possess the world. All 'ifs, buts and possiblys' would certainly disappear if you also possessed a few million dollars as a pleasant bonus to the crucial sense of humour.
In any case, if you smile to your life instead of crying over it or complaining about it, it'll simply be a lot easier to live it. Laugh and the whole world will laugh with you, cry and you will cry alone. Sounds corny, doesn't it? We're sure you've heard the saying so many times that you don't even notice how important and true it is. Let's reflect on it together. When did you last time felt happy and laughed your ass even over the silliest things? Not so long ago? Now how many people were eager to laugh their bodyparts off with you too at that moment? Five? Ten? More? Doesn't sound surprising. And now try and think of any situation when you felt like a four-letter-word-starting-with-S. And now count people who were around you comforting you wiping your tears away soothing your poor thunderstormed self. Nobody? See, the corny saying is in reality very wise. Nobody wants to look at crybabies (exceptions are your closest people who have to do it from time to time for you are not made of humouristic iron, unfortunately). That is why maybe Americans chose the right approach when decided to smile at everyone instead of grumbling about how unfair their life was.
As you can see, good sense of humour is your all-time best friend in all situations – when you're tired, fired, dissed, injured, offended, insulted, or when you simply crack jokes and have fun with your friends.
